On my way to the immigration office near the Omokgyo Station (오목교역), I came across this very unassuming chain called 패미리 만두 (Family Mandu) that sold dumplings, dumpling style buns, and of course ramen. The store was very tiny, but what attracted me was the large amounts of steam coming from the pressure steamers. The store was very clean and had a homemade style atmosphere. There was a big bucket of filling and you could see the cook making the dumplings from time to time. You’ll come across the restaurant on the way to the immigration office in Omokgyo. Samsung GSAT Test
As a fun little experience and because I need a job/source of income anyways, I decided to take the Global Samsung Aptitude Test (GSAT) for new business/marketing candidates. This is the 2nd stage of their 4 step employment process, the first submitting your materials including resume and work experience, and the other two being interviews with different executives and HR. Cheap Eats in Seoul: Jaws Tteokbokki (죠스 떡볶이)
I just came across this really awesome tteokbokki (떡볶이)chain, Jaws Tteokbokki, serving by far some of the best tteokbokki I’ve had from a chain(so far). I’ve been to a few chain restaurants including Pomato, only to be disappointed in their limp, watery tteokbokki. Luckily, I finally found this place! Cheap Eats in Seoul: Pomato
Living on a tight budget (for now), finding cheap eats is a necessity for me. Finding affordable restaurants in Seoul is not terribly hard, and luckily I found this chain that has become a good staple for cheap eats. The restaurants are clean with nice furniture and the food is pretty decent with affordable prices. The best part is it is open 24 hours a day! Continue reading “Cheap Eats in Seoul: Pomato”
Seoul International Fireworks Festival (서울세계꽃축제)
I went to the Seoul International Fireworks Festival yesterday. I went there 4 years ago with a bunch of friends and had a lot of fun, so this time I decided to go there and take some pictures. As expected, the turnout was insane and just heading out of the station felt like an evacuation after a North Korean attack. Continue reading “Seoul International Fireworks Festival (서울세계꽃축제)”
Cheonggyecheon Plaza (청계천 플라자 )
Cheongyecheon is a beautiful creek that was restored after being “buried” under a concrete highway for approximately 30 years or so. It was restored in 2005 and is a great example of beautiful city design. You can take a nice leisurely stroll along this creek which is especially pleasant during a summer night. A New Beginning
Hi guys,
Thanks for coming to my site! My name is Ryan and I’m a 25 or so old guy just in search of exciting experiences abroad in Korea. Four years ago, I studied abroad there for 6 months at Yonsei University (연세대학교) and enjoyed it so much that I still had withdrawal symptoms throughout my whole time back at home. After doing 1 year of marketing for a startup company, I decided to go back to the other side of the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco and try my hand at living in Seoul. With a little cash and the ever impending feeling of myself growing too old to do anything exciting, I decided to drop everything and just go for it. Continue reading “A New Beginning”
